Best Places to Grab a Beer in the EDGE District

Whether you are winding down after a long day at work or are on vacation in the Sunshine City, there’s nothing more relaxing than taking a swig of a crisp cold pint of beer. Fortunately, the EDGE District in Downtown St. Petersburg is filled to the brim with places to enjoy a tasty craft beer.

Green Bench Brewing

1133 Baum Avenue North
St. Petersburg, FL 33705

This local brewery got their start in 2013 after owners Steven Duffy, Nathan Stonecipher, and Khris Johnson decided to turn their passion into their profession. Believe it or not, Green Bench was one of the first breweries to open in St Petersburg and has since paved the way for many others.

The brewery consists of two spacious tasting rooms and beer gardens that combine for 36 total taps located at 1133 Baum Avenue North. Green Bench creates delicious beers, meads, and ciders using fresh, local ingredients. Their core line of beers include the Bench Life Premium Lager, Postcard Pilsner and the Sunshine City IPA.

Recently, the brewery opened Webb’s City Cellar, situated next door to the brewery, which houses a second tasting room and barrel aging facility that specializes in mixed culture, wild, and sour ales.

After steady growth over the past few years, Green Bench Brewing currently has the capacity to brew 12,000 BBLs (372,000 gallons) of beer per year. Be sure to check out Green Bench’s annual Foeder For Thought Festival every March.

Stop by today and enjoy a delicious beer in the Green Bench beer garden!

The Independent

1049 Central Avenue
St. Petersburg, FL 33705

The Independent is a European-inspired beer hall located in the heart of the EDGE District. Originally situated on St. Pete’s Jannus Block, The Independent moved to the EDGE District in 2016.

The bar features 24 rotating draft selections from local, national and international breweries. Expect to find a variety of brews from European breweries, such as Weinhenstephaner, Lindemans, and St. Bernardus, as well as American wild ales from Crooked Stave and 7venth Sun.

Not into beer? Don’t worry! The Independent also serves hard cider, meads, boutique wines, nitro coffee and kombucha.

Be sure to check out live jazz every Sunday at The Independent from 3-5pm (No cover). We recommend you arrive early, as the bar fills up and both music and patrons spill out onto the sidewalk.

Engine No 9

56 Dr M.L.K. Jr Street North
St. Petersburg, FL 33705

Although Engine No 9 isn’t a beer bar, this burger joint has one of the most impressive beer offerings in the EDGE District. This Chicago Blackhawks-themed restaurant is located a block off of Central Avenue on Dr. MLK Jr. St N. Typically, you’ll find 16 beers on tap and another 40+ in cans and bottles. Local breweries such as Pinellas Ale Works and St Pete Brewing Company are almost always on tap, while national favorites like DuClaw and Goose Island are also available.

Compliment your beer with an order of Macho Tater Tots, which are smothered with chili, topped with shredded jack and cheddar cheese. In the mood for a full meal? Our favorite burger is the Demi-God, which consists of an 8oz Prime Black Angus beef patty with cheddar, swiss, sautéed mushrooms, caramelized onions, and horseradish mayo.

Once you’ve had a few to drink, swing by The Blue Goose next door for a game of pool!
